Frequently Asked Questions about Skate Bearings
What bearings are best for skateboarding?
Skateboard bearings are classified by ABEC. In skateboarding, bearings typically range from ABEC 3 to ABEC 9 (the highest quality), with ABEC 5 being the most common. The higher the ABEC number, the better. You will have more efficient bearings with a higher ABEC rating.
How to remove skate bearings?
To remove the bearings from the skateboard and clean them or replace them with others, start by unscrewing and removing the wheels. Once this is done, with the help of pliers (and being very careful), you can remove the bearings from the axles. You can also remove them by prying with the same axle, where the bearings and wheels are inserted, but always with care!
How to clean skateboard bearings?
The first step is to remove the wheels from the skateboard to access the bearings. Then, remove one of the bearing shields and soak it in solvent. Afterward, remove the bearings and leave them upside down to drain properly. Once drained, dry them with gauze and apply a small amount of specific lubricant. Finally, place the shield back on and you're done!
