The Firewire Machado 2+1 Fin Set has been designed by Rob Machado for his most versatile hybrid model, the Machadocado. Based on a straighter template, this design allows tight turns and extreme control, while still offering the drive and glide characteristic of a thruster. It combines the smoothness and glide of a twin fin with the additional control provided by a small rear trailer, giving you the freedom of a fish with the precision of a thruster.
Perfect for what Rob calls "transitional moments," when switching from rail to rail, the Machado 2 + 1 Fin Set creates a greater sense of control when connecting lines, compared to a traditional keel fin. According to Rob, "You can push the 2 + 1 through turns, and it will hold whatever line you’re trying to draw." This set is highly versatile and adapts to a wide variety of wave types, being especially effective in weaker conditions thanks to the minimal drag from the small rear trailer. However, the trailer provides just enough surface area to enable controlled transitions in turns, making it an ideal fin set for waves ranging from knee-high to overhead.
Unlike the more popular Machado Twin Keel, the Machado 2 + 1 Fin Set features a more performance-oriented template, allowing for tighter turns and greater ability to draw precise lines. Paired with the rear trailer, this fin set provides the perfect balance of control and drive, making it an all-around option for surfers seeking a blend of maneuverability, control, and speed across a wide range of conditions.
